TAKOMA BUNGALOW

The single-family home is in the Takoma neighborhood of Washington, DC. The client's goals were to improve the livability of the main floor by improving the circulation and creating a large kitchen for the growing family. Additional bedrooms and finished space will be added to the basement, and creating flexibility to add a rental unit. The ground floor was reorganized to improve adjacencies, and the rear porch was replaced with a modern sho sugi ban family room, lowered to create a connection to the rear yard. On the second floor, a master suite was inserted into leftover space with a new walk-in closet and bathroom. Photos by Birch Thomas.
